Delayed Quote Help

General Instructions:

  • Enter the stock or index symbol
  • Select "All exchange option quotes if multiply listed" if desired (if you do not, default delayed quotes are disseminated from CBOE; if the option in question is not traded at CBOE, all exchange delayed quotes will be displayed)
  • Select one of the three search criteria:
    - "List near term at-the-money-options"
    - "List all options and LEAPS (Segmented file)"
    - "List all options and LEAPS (Complete file)"
  • Click "Submit"

Option Chain Search Criteria:

Q: What is the check box preceding "All exchange option quotes (if multiply listed)" for?

A: When this box is checked, and an option or LEAPSŪ symbol is entered, the search result will display the delayed quotes on all exchanges if the option is multiply listed.

Q: What does "List near term at-the-money options" mean?

A: When a stock, index, or LEAPS symbol is entered and this search option is selected, the search result will display delayed quotes for the nearest two months (if available), representing a list of strike prices greater than and less than the delayed stock quote.

Q: What does "List all options and LEAPS for this underlying (Segmented file, smaller, faster download)" mean?

A: When a stock, index, or LEAPS symbol is entered and this search option is selected, the search result will display delayed quotes for all options in all months (including LEAPS if available) for the given underlying, separated into multiple pages for faster download. Click here for instructions to obtain delayed quotes on LEAPS only.

Q: What does "List all options and LEAPS for this underlying (Complete file; larger, slower download)" mean?

A: When a stock, index, or LEAPS symbol is entered and this search option is selected, the search result will display delayed quotes for all options in all months (including LEAPS if available) for the given underlying in one continuous table. Click here for instructions to obtain delayed quotes on LEAPS only.

Q: How do I generate an option chain of delayed quotes for LEAPS only?

A: Enter the LEAPS symbol representing the appropriate expiring year, select the desired search options, then click "Submit".
Note: If there is more than one LEAPS symbol for the same expiring year, enter the symbol that represents the lowest range of strike prices. If you don?t know the LEAPS symbol which represents the lowest strike price range, first, enter the stock symbol, select "List all options and LEAPS", then click "Submit". All LEAPS symbols for all available years for the given underlying will be displayed. Re-submit your LEAPS search (per the instructions above) with the desired LEAPS symbol.

Q: What does "Download text file" mean?

A: "Download text file" means you can download the complete option chain to your hard drive in .dat format, which converts into a spreadsheet program. Conversion instructions are displayed on the download page.

Option Chain Table Data:

Q: What does the letter following the hyphen (if present) in an option or LEAPS series indicate, i.e., (XYZ AA-E)?

A: This letter (if present) indicates which exchange(s) the option trades at, whereby:
No hyphen or letter present = Composite
E = CBOE (Chicago Board Options Exchange)
A = AMEX (American Stock Exchange)
P = PCX or PSE (Pacific Stock Exchange)
X = PHLX (Philadelphia Stock Exchange)
b = BOX (Boston Options Exchange)

Q: What does "Last Sale" mean?

A: "Last Sale" stands for an option's Last Reported Sales Price. In the event the "Net" column displays "pc", the "Last Sale" column displays the last reported sales price from a previous business day. In the event the "Net" column displays an up or down point movement, the "Last Sale" column displays the last reported sales price from the current business day. All of the above information is reported on a 20 minute delayed basis.

Q: What does "Net" mean?

A. "Net" stands for an option's Net Point Change. In the event the "Net" column displays "pc", no last sale price has yet been reported for the current business day. In the event the "Net" column displays an up or down point movement, the point change reflects the difference from the current business day's last reported sales price, and a previous business day's last reported sales price. All of the above information is reported on a 20 minute delayed basis.

Q: What does "Vol" mean?

A: "Vol" stands for Volume. The "Vol" column displays the volume (in option contracts) that has traded for the current day, 20 minutes delayed.

Please note that the "Vol" identifier that appears above the option table reflects the volume for the underlying product.

Q: What does "Open Int" mean?

A: "Open Int" stands for Open Interest. The "Open Int" column displays the open interest, based upon opening and closing transaction data and exercise notices tendered from the previous day.
